British bonfire builders in Northern Ireland. 2014 - 2019.

The Twelfth is a day that marks the victory of Protestant king William of Orange over Catholic king James II at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690 The night before dozens if not hundreds of bonfires are lit across Northern Ireland. The bonfires are raised by the groups of Loyalists – it is a joint work of the young people, youth workers and local residents. Some might appear to raise controversies, but majority of them are seen to be a celebration of the local cultural tradition that attracts lots of participants and supporters, including more and more tourists. One far too easily forgets the young involved for whom it is a major celebration and a source of fun. The youth have been building the bonfires for many years this is the time of the year that they all are waiting for. It is visible that the young people massively enjoy the spirit of the engagement and team work that is involved in the process. Also, that is a generational thing- their parents and grandparents were doing it, too.
